Map of where we all are.
by wanderlustguy inhttp://www.frappr.com/xjws .
don't know if this is done already, but here is a pretty neat way for us all to map out where we are so if anyone is travelling, they know who is in the area...if anyone thinks this is a good idea, feel free to click and update!
edited to add...it has chat, too.

This ain't a song for the broken-hearted
No silent prayer for the faith-departed
I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice, when I shout it out loud
It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said, “I did it my way”
I just wanna live while I'm alive
It's my life
This is for the ones who stood their ground
For Tommy and Gina who never backed down
Tomorrow's getting harder make no mistake
Luck ain't even lucky
Got to make your own breaks
It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said, “I did it my way”
I just wanna live while I'm alive
It's my life
Better stand tall when they're calling you out
Don't bend, don't break, baby, don't back down
It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said, “I did it my way”
I just wanna live while I'm alive
It's my life -

Fans of American Football
by XJW4EVR inpick'em pool
since our football season is starting up soon, i was interested in gauging interest in a non-gambling football pool.
this would be for the professional leagues only, and could be picking winners straight-up or against the las vegas pointspread as posted by the usa today on the tuesday before the games on sunday and monday.. there would be weekly winners, and a season long winner.

Can you let go?
by whyamihere inas i was sitting in a restaurant with my friend briana(ex-jw), we started talking about how we see other ex-jw's inability to let go.
i know many have suffered and endured horrific events or trials as jw's, which i assume it would be hard to let go.
though, do we really have the ability to let go lead a normal life with not thinking twice or having fear in our actions?.

Sandy ... I appreciated what you said. It gave me something to think about.
For me, and maybe others, I have started a new life that includes new friends outside this board. I think JWD is a great resource to help those going through difficult times, maybe needing to express their pain or experiences. Maybe it helps re-affirm their decision to leave.
I hope to make some real good friends from this board that may last a lifetime. However, I will not be tied only to x-jw's. I guess for me, this forum is like a bridge that helps you to the other side, away from your past life to a new, hopefully better life.
Every friendship usually has some common bond. For some music, others sports, maybe some share in the same hobbies, and for some it's the life they had before and after the wtbs. I think all can be cultivated and enjoyed.
For some, the time it takes to 'totally' let go may depend on family, friends, or how long they were involved with that faith. I agree with Blondie as well. It was not just 'part' of our life, it WAS our life.
I'm just glad to find so many real people here that have had their eyes opened ... -

A question about the ladies
by cyberdyne systems 101 inok firstly i have nothing against ladies, especially any of the lovely ones here - some of whom i recently had the pleasure of meeting in the flesh at englishmans bbq, and i must say what a great group of girls we have here!.
anyway back to my question, a number of times i have noticed that some women seem to go quiet on you rather than tell you what they feel.
almost like pushing you away because they can't speak about whatever it is.

I've always been the 'better' communicator in my past relationships. I don't have any problem expressing the way I feel, but I usually tried to do it in a loving, caring way that take's the other person's feelings into consideration ... I've usually ended up with ladies that held their thoughts inside until they boiled over into an emotional rant ... Perhaps, one day, I'll find someone that is equally open ... no communication means no 'real'ationship :)

After being pounded for 40 years with this crap ... it is kinda hard to let go. I think that's why fading is the more popular option. It's been easy for me. Around here, unless your and elder or a m.s., you're a nobody, so when I started fading, no one noticed or cared. I never even received 1 phone call from anyone connected with the org. since I started my fade 2 1/2 years ago. It was like I was invisible or never existed. How do you go from 'sound' attendant, lit. servant, wt reader, prayer giver, etc. to 'nobody' in less than a month?
It's really like starting your life over. All your past views and beliefs stricken, and you have to develop a whole new outlook.
I feel sorry for those who are trying to fade but have family or friends still 'hound' them. -

Be Honest: Did You ACTUALLY Report Accurate Field Service Time?
by minimus ini bet most people did not.
i think nearly everyone counted time spent on breaks.
or sitting in the car for an hour and a half while the elders did a "shepherding" call.

I fudged ... hey I was reaching out and needed my 10 hours per month ...
Growing up in Nebraska, driving in rurals was great ... 8 hour days during the summer and maybe hitting 10 farm houses in the sandhills ... meant only 2 doors that day for me ...
Elders were the worst I saw at the whole 'time' thing. I would go out with one or two, they'ed hit a call maybe, then waste most the morning driving around, maybe seeing a bro or sis that was ill, long breaks, etc.
It seemed to me that most the elders spent there mornings as being part of some 'boys club', talking about people in the cong. and such, not on door to door. Of course there were exceptions, but for the most part, service in the last few cong. I was in was more socializing than preaching ...
